| This year the Lower Long Lake Foundation would like to focus on a particular property for induction into perpetual preservation. The property is located along Cedar Creek that flows into the north end of the lake and would compliment the existing 59 acres of similar geography donated to the Foundation by the Playter family several years ago. It is primarily a lowland swamp with old growth Cedar forest, and would be a legacy addition to the existing preserved land. | |
| the owner of the property has shown a willingness to work with the Foundation to help preserve the land, but they wish to recover some of the initial investment in the property. The foundation would like to purchase the property using a combination of resources including existing funds provided through donations, future monetary donations obtained from this solicitation, and a conservation grant from the State of Wisconsin. The owner would also provide a generous donation to compliment the outside funding required. | |
| This property will not be obtainable without additional monetary
donations. From the inception of the Foundation, over a decade ago, the
generosity of our donors has been the mechanism for success of the Foundation,
as well as the success of this focused campaign. If you are interested
in helping preserve this property, feel free to contact any of our directors. | |
| As open water season was concluded in lade November (2007), all corners of Lower Long Lake were still teeming with wildlife. Herde Lake was alive with eight eagles perched high in the towering pines. Several loons could still be seen, and enormous flocks of Sandhill Cranes migrated above with their distinctive cackle then slowly drifting away. This abundant wildlife is a treasure. The raw nature is invigorating, and we are fortunate that our lake front properties have so much of this nature to enjoy. | |
| It deserves to be recognized that some things are being done more conscientiously then they have been in the past. today, with our environment getting plenty of attention in the media, many have stepped up their personal efforts to protect what is untouched, repair where it is most needed, and impact minimally. The foundation provides an avenue for contribution to a healthy ecosystem and allows a balance between our human activities and the raw, untouched nature that we come to enjoy. | |
| Although land is one of the most tangible legacies an individual can leave to the protection of the foundation, the funding provided through your monetary donations assures the foundation's efforts will move forward for future generations. Thanks to each of you for your support of the foundation, and have a happy holiday season. May 20008 afford you many opportunities to enjoy Lower Long Lake. | |
| Your donation to the foundation is tax deductible – 501(3)(3). |
| Donate unused land or a tax-exempt monetary gift to help acquire land | |
| Observe land use restrictions on Foundation land |
